Student missing from Absentee SMS list

Modified on Mon, 20 Apr at 5:12 AM

The following checks will typically allow you to identify and/or resolve issues with the Absentee SMS list:

  • Refresh/reload the Absentee SMS page to ensure the list is up-to-date.
  • Check under the Day-by-Day to ensure the students still has absences showing.
  • A listing in the Absenteee SMSes page is controlled by rules set in the SEQTA Teach database (eg: must be absent for P1 and P2). Check to ensure the student meets the requirements of the rules for your school.
  • If related to a specific student, check the Attendance history in the SIP under time-based to view underlying attendance.
  • Check in the SIP to ensure at least one of the Contacts is flagged for SMSes and has a valid mobile number listed.
  • If an attendance type other than Absent is used, check under Administration workspace > Attendance administration > Type manager and ensure the Attendance Type is flagged as ABSENTEE SMS?=YES.

Please note that the Absentee SMS function only flags students that are absent on the current day.

Absentee SMS rules

Absentee SMS rules determine which students are flagged for Absentee SMSes, based on which periods the student has been marked absent. It is not possible to view the SMS rules through the interface, but they can be provided on request. Please contact the SEQTA Support team via the Help portal.

If the Absentee SMS rule does not appear to be working as expected, please contact the SEQTA Support team via the Help portal for assistance. The rules may need to be updated. This typically occurs due to changes to the period 'codes' used for a new timetable structure.
