It's important late attendance is recorded correctly, so as to indicate 'how' late a student was, as well as 'when' and 'why' a student was late.

The process for recording late attendance may differ slightly depending on the school's policies and processes. If in doubt as to the suitability of the process below or attendance types used, please contact the SEQTA Support Team.

There are several default Attendance types used to record late attendance. These are:

  • Late to class - entered through the roll page, not considered absent, used when no further action is required
  • Late and Unresolved late - entered through the SIP or Attendance manager page, considered absent for the period of time they were late, used when follow-up is required

Process for recording late attendance (unresolved)

Two attendance solutions are used to record attendance for a student who is late to class:

  • One 'Late' attendance type, to cover the period of time the student was not in class
  • One 'In class' attendance type, for the time the student arrives until the end of the period.

For example, the student's class starts at 8:45am and the student arrives at 09:00 am. The times entered will be 8:45am - 09:00am = 'Late', the rest of the period needs to be marked as 'IN CLASS'.

Using the Attendance Manager page to record late attendance

  1. Go to the Administration WorkspaceAttendance AdministrationAttendance Manager
  2. Select the student or students
  3. Fill out the attendance solution selecting the type 'Late' or 'Unresolved late'
  4. Set the time from the start of class, until the time the student arrives.
  5. Select the IN-CLASS option to mark the student as present for the rest of the period (if this option does not show skip this step)
  6. Click Save
  7. If the IN-CLASS checkbox was selected in step 5, nothing further needs to be done. However, if it does not show, another Attendance solution will need to be entered, using the type 'In class'. Set the time the student arrived to the end of the period and click Save.

Using the Student information panel (SIP) to record late attendance

This method requires two attendance solutions to be entered. One for the period of time the student was late and another to cover the period of time the student was present.

  1. Select the students name in the Student information panel
  2. Select the View attendance history icon "@"
  3. If the teacher has marked the student absent, click on the absent icon (x) to open the Resolve attendance popup. If the attendance roll has not been marked, click on the Add solution button
  4. Fill out the attendance solution selecting the type to 'Late' or 'Unresolved late'
  5. Set the time from the start of class, until the time the student arrives.
  6. Click Save
  7. Complete steps 2-5 again choosing the option 'In class' and set the times to the time the student arrived to the end of the period.

Using the 'IN-CLASS' check box (to remove the need to enter a second attendance solution)

When entering late attendance through the 'Attendance manager' page, the option to mark a student as IN-CLASS (present) for the remainder of the period will be displayed. This removes the need to enter two attendance solutions.

The 'IN-CLASS' option is not available in the following conditions:

  • Applying attendance through the SIP
  • Entering an attendance solution for more than 9 students at a time
  • If the attendance type does not contain the word 'late'
  • If the Attendance type has the setting 'Resolved' set to Yes
