Introduction
The timetable Group number determines which timetable periods can be Bridged together. The Group number is set through the Timetable management page, under the Cycle/Period setup sub-page.
Assigning the correct Group number is important, as it prevents bridging across the incorrect timetable periods. See below for more information and examples.
If the Group number has been incorrect for a period of time, and there is a chance classes have been incorrectly Bridged as a result, the incorrect bridging should be resolved prior to changing the Group number. Changing the Group number does not affect the timetabling or the sync process. See Removing a class bridge (Unbridging)
Viewing and changing the Timetable period Group number
- Go to the Administration workspace>Timetable management>Cycle/Period Setup.
- The group number will be displayed in curly brackets beside each timetable period listed on the left-hand side.
- Click on the applicable timetable period.
- If required edit the group number (found on the right-hand side of the screen).
- NOTE there is a pop-up explanation of the purpose; in the example 2016S1P, 2016S2P and 2016S1 are three different timetable periods.
- Click SAVE.
Determining which timetables should not share a Group number
In the following scenarios the Timetable periods should be using different Group numbers. In most cases, the following rules apply. It doesn't matter which number is used; rather it matters which timetable periods are sharing the same number.
- Timetables from previous academic years.
- The exception to this is when classes continue over two years, or start in advance, for example Year 12 courses in Term 4 of Year 11.
- Timetables for Different Campuses.
- There might also be exceptions at your school as campuses might be set for special purposes.
- Timetables for Different Sub-Schools (eg: Senior and Junior).
Table below: Example of a school with Group numbers assigned over multiple Timetable periods.
| Example | Timetable periods | Group Number |
| Senior | 2021SS1, 2021SS2 | 1 |
| Primary (year long timetable | 2021P | 2 |
Timetables used with special programmes Bridged across academic reporting periods | 2019T4, 2020S1, 2020S2 | 7 |
Campus 1 | 2020S1CA1, 2020S2CA1 | 5 |
Campus 2 | 2020S1CA2, 2020S2CA2 | 55 |
Managing Bridging for Year 11 classes starting Year 12 lessons
If there are Year 12 courses that start before the end of Term 4 of a Timetable period for Year 11, and that timetable includes classes from other year levels, the following process may be used to minimise the chance of teachers with classes from other year levels accidentally bridging across years (rather than copy/sharing Programmes as they should be for the new class of students).
- Set the new Timetable period's group number the same as the previous year, and have the Year 11 teachers bridge their Year 12 programmes. TIP: Coordinate this so all classes are Bridged over a short period of time (eg: a few days).
- Once the Year 11 Classes are Bridged, change the Group number to prevent teachers from other year levels accidentally bridging across years.
